Were Going Up!

The question should not be: “What should I write about the end of a very successful season?” I could make some sort of analogy to being a proud parent but that just would make me look like some sort of estrogen based Scottish Fairie (Note to Craig Bell, By no way do I mean to demean all the testosterone based Scottish fairies).

Let me just say, “Well done lads,” and promise to bring a stocked cooler to the first game next season. I do send Kudos all who have made changes in positions and in moves by management in the acquisition of new talent. I may be captain but there is power behind the throne. Very much like the guy behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz movie.

The main question that the team must think about is: What should we do with our newly found success? I know a position in next years Worthington Cup is out of the question, but we should consider our move into the second division. Our team play has shows enough improvement that we will be successful at the next level.

Each game will be significantly more difficult but will adapt, adjust, and overcome. I almost pity the second division for not knowing the powder blue dragon that awaits them.

There is one more thing for all to consider. There is no better time for growth than a time of success.
I have been approached by present and former Riversiders about the possibility of the formation of another 3rd division Riverside team. Throughout the year, there has been a team commitment to attendance that has paid dividends. I believe that there are enough former players and people that are willing to play two games on Sundays to warrant the formation of the Riverside Wanderers.

Skip Stone has offered to start and manage the team. He has had verbal commitment from at least six players (all over 30 and of the Riverside spirit) and I believe that we each know of someone who has asked to play on a lower division outdoor side. If there are concerns about this, please feel free to contact Skip and mull it over with him. If you think that this is something that the Riverside crest should not be associated with, let one of the management team know your opinion.

This is not a decided matter but something everyone must consider. Once again, cheers to all for the impressive season performance. Have a wonderful holidays season. Keep in shape. Keep out of jail. Keep the secrets from the evil ones. Keep the hounds at bay.
