Riverside Domination.
The smoke of the pipe curls around the ceiling in the predawn hours. . .
We must now consider the games which are drawing to a close as almost the last stage of this season's Riverside domination, and prepare ourselves to finish worthily of the Providence which has been reserved for us in this fortunate age.
Yes, men, Riverside owes to you an undertaking which has merited the applause of the universe.
You have conquered and you will conquer still, because you are prepared for the tactics that decide the fate of these battles.
You are not unworthy of the men who entered the field at Gettysberg, and who contended not in vain with the proud conquerors of Europe.
To this wonderful page in our team's history another more glorious still will be added.
To arms, then, all of you! all of you!
And the oppressors shall disappear like dust.
Do not let us speak of the darker days: let us speak rather of sterner days.
These are not dark days; these are great days. The greatest days our team has ever lived; and we must all thank God that we have been allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our team.
When we look back on all the perils of the season through which we have passed, and at the mighty foes we have laid low, and all the dark and deadly designs we have frustrated, why should we fear for our future?
We have come safely through the worst.
We do not expect to hit without being hit back, and we intend with every week that passes to hit harder.
Prepare yourselves, then, my friends and comrades, for this renewal of your exertions.
Cast away from your thoughts, all fear of the cowards from the other teams; All they are good for is to make cowards for children, Riverside bear children who are noble and brave We shall never turn from our purpose, however sombre the road, however grievous the cost, because we know that out of this time of trial and tribulation will be born a new glory.
To arms, all-all of you.
Receive, then, my gallant volunteers, one word of farewell from me.
I utter this word with deepest affection and from the very bottom of my heart.
The hour of battle will find me with you again, by the side of the champions.
We shall meet again before long to march together.
We shall meet again before long to march to new
triumphs.
